If you wanted to set your queue for the next six years.
I gotta take my chances
The ‘hyperspecific situations’ polls are really once again highlighting that native English speakers tend to forget that 'foreign’ doesn’t mean 'non-English’ or 'non-American’
“Did you watch a foreign language movie in the past three days?” Yeah I watched the foreign movie “The Martian” with foreign actor Matt Damon
Op why would you hide this is the tags
I got very loudly deadnamed and misgendered multiple times at the doctors office today. This new receptionist ignored the preferred name on my profile to deadname and misgender me loudly, louder than she talked about anyone else in the waiting room. My birth certificate says “F” nex to sex, my medical documentation reflects this, and I was still deadnamed and misgendered.
And the saving grace was a woman and her child. I wear cat-ears and the child too young to speak loved them, and kept pointing and looking at me. I’m assuming her mother kept saying “yeah, she’s wearing cat-ears”, “yeah, that woman has cute cat-ears”, and the like. Her child was enamoured with them, and that woman didn’t misgender me once. And each time my very obviously masculine deadname name came up, she looked upset at the receptionist, but not once did she give me a bad look.
It doesn’t have to be much. You don’t need to be a knight in shining armour, or in someones face. Simply a quiet refusal to play along with someone elses bullshit is enough. It was enough to turn a trying and tiring moment into something that put a smile on my face and joy back into my life. It wasn’t a lot but it mattered to me.

an attack on @captainludraws featuring Nopon Miku… Mikupon!
AI isn’t a threat to creative professions because it can actually make passable art that humans enjoy (it can’t). It’s a threat because in a capitalist system, employers would do literally anything to not have to pay humans living wages (or any wages, let’s be real).
We’ve been in a productivity boom for the past 60 years, but the one area where production cannot become more efficient is the arts. It takes the same amount of time to write a novel or compose a symphony now as it did a hundred years ago. That’s just the creative process.
AI represents a shortcut to making art that has had executives salivating since LLMs and AI art generators hit the internet. It means more content faster with the benefit of not having to provide salaries, sick days, parental leave, time off, or healthcare. It means not having to deal with unions and labour laws. It means cutting humans out of the most fundamentally human activity we do – making art.
All those headlines and clickbait articles about AI annihilating the human race are a hyperbolic distraction from the actual problem we may soon be facing where people won’t have the possibility of supporting themselves making art (not that it’s particularly easy to do as it stands).
If making art becomes a luxury only for the affluent, we will stop hearing the voices, stories, and perspectives of marginalized people. And our cultural tapestry will stop being so vibrant, diverse, and vital.
i don’t know how you can look at how netflix treats writers or actors and still assume that they’re doing good things to the anime industry
Their release schedule basically killed Stone Ocean. Remember when anime would have weekly discussion?
The Netflix model shortens the halflife of active fandoms, and I might even go as far as to partially blame it for why people these days seem to think you’re not allowed to have fandom for older stuff!yeah yeah. used to be that a show was running for weeks or months at a time, and even when it ended, it had built up so much hype that it kept going. we still see that with weekly releases, like the persistence of the GWitch fandom. but for something made to be binged, it appears out of nowhere, so it can’t build up steam, and when it ends, aka five minutes after release, there’s no hype to press forward. weekly models are far better for fandom (and probably better for creators too, i mean look at how many old shows had mid-season changes based on audience feedback)
Exactly! The “release it all at once so people can binge it on initial release” model is terrible for fandom engagement, which is in turn terrible for the property itself. And that’s aside from not being able to properly digest everything in each episode while you’re waiting a week to watch the next one, which utterly kills a lot of the enjoyment and careful consideration of what’s going on in the series., which is pretty bad for peoples media literacy in general.
STOP THINKING THERE IS A DEADLINE. THERE IS NO DEADLINE. TAKE A DEEP BREATH AND TAKE YOUR TIME.

this is so nostalgic. tumblr rolls out something terrible. everyone complains. it breaks several people’s dashboards. for some reason it only rolls out to a few people at a time with seemingly no warning. the community collectively and immediately searches for a browser extension that undoes the change. i know we’ve all gotten burnt out on all social media sucking but this is genuinely The tumblr experience. everyone who hasn’t gotten it already gets an achievement. welcome to the club
